Part of the route that I normally walk includes a stretch of beautiful trees. I believe they are called Bradford Pear trees. They bloom with the most gorgeous white flowers, so many, in fact, that they “load” the tree down, sometimes to the breaking point. I’ve been noticing their beauty and thought of planting some in my yard. The problem is I have never seen any fruit growing on the trees, no pears to pick and eat. Even though they are beautiful for a few weeks in the Spring, they don’t produce any of those juicy pears that I love to eat. I wonder if God doesn’t look at us in the same way. The Scriptures speak so much about producing fruit. Revelation 22 speaks of the Tree of Life producing fruit EVERY month (all the time) because it is near the “pure river of water of life”. As Christians, aren’t we near that River of Life? If we are near then shouldn’t we be producing fruit – all the time? As we close the year 2014, take a moment to reflect on this year for yourself. Have we been producing fruit all year long? Or maybe we are more like the trees that I see and look lovely for a short while but produce no fruit. But take heart! Don’t end the year on a sour note. Thank Him for His mercy, grace, love, and new opportunities. Now let’s go be fruit producers in 2015! Blessings
