Growing up around my house soft drinks were kind of scarce. It was not that we didn’t like them, it was that Mom and Dad wouldn’t buy them. We knew something “special” was brewing when we walked in and there was a soft drink on the counter. We all loved them but we knew that we had better make sure it was okay with Mom and Dad before we opened and when we did open we better not drink too much. My brother and I would go for the biggest glasses in the cabinet because we thought that we could honestly say that we only had one glass and we knew one glass would be a plenty. My sister, on the other hand, would get a coffee cup. We thought that she was crazy. Why didn’t she get one of the big glasses? Seems that she outsmarted us because when we got home the drink would be empty. My Dad would question us. My brother and I would show the glasses that we used and my sister would go get her cup. It looked like we had drank most of the drink; but, my Dad never asked how many times she filled that cup during the day. I don’t even think that she realized how much drink she drank. Let’s just say that she got more than her fair share. Isn’t that sort of the way that the Devil works? He entices us to get a little closer to sin. He gets us to move just a little bit and before we even recognize it we have gotten into the sin zone. At the end of the day we look back and without even knowing what we have done or planned to do, we have sinned. And our sins have increasingly grown worse (not that one sin is greater than another). As I read Micah today I am going to try and check myself, to take note of every time that I get my “cup” out to refill my drink, to make sure that I stay away from that edge where sin awaits. After all, I definitely don’t want to be the one that empties the bottle! Blessings
